Sleep Apnea

Do you snore? Are you tired ? Do you get morning headaches? Do you have high blood pressure, diabetes, a family history of heart attacks, atrial fibrillation or stroke? Do you wake with a dry mouth or sore throat? At Tyson’s Dental we are now addressing an epidemic called Obstructive Sleep Apnea. The National Heart , Lung and Blood Institute estimates 18 million people have OSA and it is likely that just as many people go under-diagnosed. The bad news is untreated sleep apnea increases your risk of heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, obesity, arrhythmias, diabetes and more. It also just makes you feel bad and can add to depression. The good news is that we can treat OSA in our office. If you answered yes to any of the above questions you should schedule an appointment to see Dr. Michael . To make things easier for you we will have an easy to use sleep test ( covered by your medical insurance) mailed to your home for you to use. The sleep test will then be read by a board certified sleep physician who will send us the results.

If your results show that you have OSA there are 3 recommended treatments . Dr. Michael will discuss all of those with you and decide which is the best for you. In our office we use oral appliance therapy to treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea. This is an effective, non-invasive treatment that works well for our patients. Oral appliance therapy is quiet, comfortable, easy to wear and easy to travel with. Your oral appliance will be custom fit for you, and it will be adjusted to maximize it’s effectiveness.

If you or any of your family members might be at risk for OSA, or if you or someone you know is currently using a CPAP to treat their Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and they are unhappy with their CPAP, please call to schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. Michael. It could save a life.
